Do you actively use all three of the front chainrings? I mean, do you REALLY shift between them because you need them, or can you get what you need out of, say, the middle one, and just use your rear derailleur to get the speed/torque you need? If so, then I would recommend just putting one chainring up front and not have an option to shift. Simplifies things both mechanically and mentally.

I just sort of went through this with my 1x10 (one gear up front, ten in the back), and went with a RaceFace Narrow/Wide 32T chainring. The Narrow/Wide black magic just flat out keeps the chain on there. My post is still on the front page. Check it out for details. $48 shipped to my door, I think.
