Trash bike is now hanging from ceiling and waiting for winter & snow studs. Meanwhile it has given away some of it's parts to my new old commuter bike.
Current setup has the usual hodgepodge of parts (something old, borrowed, new & red):
- Early 80's Peugeot P-mystery-M 57cm frameset
- Original cottered crankset, 50-40 chainwheel, original french threaded bb
- FD: Campagnolo Centaur
- RD: Simplex S001 T Prestige (2nd gen, velobase link)
- Shimano HG-51 cassette 8spd 11-30, HG-40 chain
- Simplex Prestige DT shifters
- Wellgo touring pedals & plastic rat traps
- Shimano R501 wheelset 100/130 hubs
- Schwalbe Delta Cruiser 28-622 tires
- AVA 90mm no-death stem, unknown shallow steel drop, foamy-cork-ish bar tape
- Shimano 600 brake levers with diy leather hoods
- CLB GL 55-75 brakes (velobase link)
- Jagwire lined cable housing, black cables
- unbranded leather saddle
- original 23.4mm seatpost
- original rear rack & full benders fenders
Money invested: 49€ so far, but most bits were found from my stash. This bike was in pretty sorry condition with no wheels attached, but after some dismantling, cleaning, rust removal, frame re-spacing, touch-up painting, fender straightening and bb & headset rebuilding, this seems to be a keeper. Until I find another miserable bike to work with, that is.
After extensive cataloque search I did not manage to find the exact model or year of this bike. From Carbolite 103 tubing & stamped drop-outs I think this is some lower end model. Under the BB is a sticker that says the model is P ?? M, where the question marks are unreadable. Frame size 57 is still readable. Decals & head badge point to somewhere early 80's, but every Peugeot cataloque pic I could found with these decals are lugged construction. This frame has no lugs.
There's still some minor adjustments to do (chain shortening, fender lines, lights, bell, crankset & brake update), but those I'll iron out with time & happy commuting.
