I did see your response to oddjob2 after my post went up. Thanks for clarifying that point. You are certainly correct in that other then the intentional cobbled sections, most of today's professional racing is accomplished on new super highway conditions compared to the races of many decades ago.

So true! And some roads are technically "paved" but appear to be made of loose chunks of asphalt. They are so pretty!
