Kelly Takeoffs for 1982 Trek 614?

Any reason why I couldn't put Kelly Takeoffs on a Trek 614? I'm thinking about getting a Trek 614 as my first non-BSO (is that term still around?,) and while I like the Trek 614, it's a bit too vintage for me with downtubes and friction shifting. And as much as I'd like to put a casette and index shifters on it, that'll require new wheels (or at least relacing the current ones,) spreading the frame (since the Mighty 6 was for 120mm spacing, not 126mm,) and a whole new groupset. May as well just get a bike much closer to what I want at that point since the only thing being kept would be the frame and maybe fork...

Putting Kelly Takeoffs on it seems like a decent compromise. I wouldn't have the index shifting, but at least it'll be a bit less of a reach. Is there any reason why this wouldn't be possible with the Suntour Mighty 6 (14-30 I think?)
