Maybe he should have said something in passing, but maybe he was a newbie as well and doesn't know the secret handshake yet.
Every time somebody pulls in front of me on the freeway with 1/4 car length to spare, I assume it's because they were concerned about my financial well being and decided to give me a draft for better gas efficiency. (That's why they slow down to 55 mph in the left lane.)
