I send/receive around 1000 packages per year, and I pride myself in being an "over packer." I'll bubble wrap it, then cellowrap it, then put it in a padded mailer.
Now packages that come to me (customer core returns) run the gamut from professionally packed (so many peanuts!!) to the absolute worst-- in ~10 years, I've received 4 empty boxes and 3 empty mailers. The items originally "packed" in them are presumably still out there in America, somewhere. I don't fault UPS, FedEx, or the USPS in any of those instances. Because when you try to ship an item across the country in a Cocoa Puffs box secured with blue masking tape, well... it's probably not going to end well.
And that seems to be what happened with that seller. Proper packing is essential.
