Anyone done an electric trike conversion? (Front wheel)

I am probably about to get rid of my car, pull my camper van out of storage (but sadly it gets 5-6 city, 9-10 hwy so it's not very good for daily driving..). I also have a Honda 250cc scooter which is nice when the weather is clear and I don't need to carry much but well, I think I'd like to have an electric trike.

They can carry more battery weight than a bike for better range, especially since you can place the batteries below the rear basket and have the weight resting between two wheels instead over one.

The easiest and lowest cost solution looks to be one of the cheap front wheel conversion kits available on ebay for about $220-250 (without the battery). I would opt for a 3 or even 7 speed trike in case I ever need to actually pedal it much if the battery goes dead. Also, I am looking at the 36V kits since then it'll be more like electric assist, rather than a 48V motor doing all the work itself. Then again, maybe 48V would be better if it's carrying twice the battery weight, plus cargo!

A 48V 1000W kit can be had for about $235 shipped (no battery). A 20AH 48V battery runs about $410+. For about $650 (plus the trike) I'd have a decent etrike that can climb the hills and not strain under the weight of cargo. I'd probably be able to mount two of those 20AH batteries under the basket, if I wanted to invest in a second battery later on.

Has anyone here done such a conversion? What options did you pick? 36V 48V? What batteries did you pick?
