I read a lot of posts...even if I don't reply and I always find it interesting to see people say where they work or what they do. I notice there are quite a few engineers, for example. Myself...I am an ASE certified Master Automotive Technician. I graduated from Tech. School, then started out at a dealership. I worked there for a while until I realized that I had too many scruples for the types of things that went on there and also, that working flat rate was going to end with me seriously hurting someone. So, I moved on to an independent shop. Worked there for a long time. It had it's ups and downs, but the work was steady and I knew what I was going to be taking home every week. Thing is, for the work I did, it simply wasn't enough. At age 40, I realized there was no way I could do this for 20 to 25 more years. My body simply wasn't going to hold up. The job is hard on you. Backs, wrists, shoulders can only take so much. So after much searching, I found what I thought would be a happy medium. I now work for an extended warranty company analyzing mechanical claims. I get to work with cars, without having to work ON them. It's a desk job...which has it's pros and cons. I come home clean every evening, don't work in the elements, my body feels great and the money and benefits are awesome. My plan is to retire from here at 60 and ride off into the sunset with my 401k, lol. We'll see how that develops. Your turn...
