Campagnolo Victory LX RD with 8 speed record brifters

I am considering to convert my 1987-8 Atala with Victory LX from downtube shifters to early record brifters. do i need to get an 8 speed long cage rd or can i use my Victory long cage. i have a 52-35 front ans a 6 speed 13-30 rear with a uniglide xt hub. I also have a 7 speed hyperglide 13-32 on the way but have not installed it yet. I read someone uses a 7 speed cassette with a victory rd and record brifters and it works fine. However One of the guys at the LBS said a slant parallelogram like the victory will not work in an index system because of variable pull ratio??? I love my old Atala, but shifting around corners and downhill one handed is sketchy. Thanks in advance! PS, i don't really want to spread the frame from 126 to 130. As vintage as possible without killing myself is what i am after. picture here:
