The terminology gets a bit sticky. If you classify a hybrid bike as a 50/50 cross between a mountain bike and a road bike, there is a particular sub-set of performance hybrids (largely just the upper range of the current Sirrus line and a handful of other bikes from a few different manufactuers) that are closer to a road bike than they are to a mountain bike. They retain the typical hybrid bike geometry of a longer wheelbase and more upright riding posture than a stock road bike that's just had the drops swapped out for flat bars, but have exclusively road-oriented groupsets, narrow tires and ultra light weight components. Some people call these performance hybrids "flat-bar bikes" to refer to them as a seperate entity from traditional "road and trail" hybrids.

edit: Apparently the OP has been banned.
