I'm looking for some decent bike advice ,based in the UK, for a large 6ft 360lbs super chub and as I live on a farm I'm looking for I guess a hybrid bike I can ride around the fields and lanes and then take out onto the country roads when I have some confidence.
For most newbies, the general advice is:
1. Figure out what you want to do on a bike. How, where, when you want to ride.
2. Go to several LBSs and tell them
#1 , and get their suggestions on bikes.
3. Road test as many different bikes/brands as you get recommended in
#2 .
4. Figure out which of
#3 feels the best when you road test it. And of those, which one gets you excited about riding, and makes you want to go out and ride.
5. Make sure the LBS gives you a basic fit, and checks the tension on the spokes of the wheels. As the wheels are normally the weak point for Clydes/Athenas.
All intro bikes that you find at LBSs are going to be of pretty good quality. So the brand shouldn't matter. Bikes from a Big Box Store (e.g. Walmar, Kmart, Target, etc.) are shoddily made with shoddy parts, and put together by somebody that may have been working in the electronics section the day before.
