Got a Selle Anatomica NSX, and...
...in the words of Shakespeare: "It sucketh."
That is to say, I'm really struggling to like it. I got interested in the SA line because of the claims of instant comfort and the positioning possibilities of the longer rails. WELL...the NSX felt like a less comfortable brooks, and does not mount in my seatpost far enough forward for me to use it on my main rig.
The Background:
I've worshiped at the Brooks B17 shrine for about 5 years now. Got a "new to me" Felt FA alu frame this summer and it came with a Felt Devox UHC Carbon saddle. This bike is set up with a few inches of saddle to bars drop. On my first few rides on the Felt saddle, at about mile 10 or 12 I was praying for a flat so I could walk home. It was a royal and literal PITA. Put my favorite of the B17s on the Felt. HUGE improvement in comfort at first (could get to about mile 25 before I even noticed the saddle). BUT it's starting to wear off and I'm starting to get quite a bit of pressure where it counts at 25-30 miles in. I started doing a 30 mile loop of my city 5 days a week this summer. I've been tweaking fore/aft/angle but nothing seems to fit. I'd like to up some of those rides to 50, but the saddle pressure is giving me hell. Also, I think the B17 looks stupid on this bike.
I wanted to try an slotted SA, but I'm scared off by the price especially if I don't like it (don't know any local dealers). A very gently used NSX popped up on craigslist today for $85 so I snagged it figuring I could always sell it again at little to no loss if I didn't like it. As I said, I can't even get it on the Felt (hate the seatpost adjustment on that thing anyhow and want to get a better one, Thomson? different thread). So, I mounted it to my Kona Paddy Wagon (with closer to level bars and saddle) and took a spin around the Neighborhood. Was NOT impressed. It felt too stiff and just well, wrong. Popped a nearly new B17 back on the Paddy Wagon and it felt like a warm hug.
So my question is this: Where would you go from here? Give the NSX longer? Can someone who has ridden both the NSX and X (as well as, hopefully, a B17) comment on how the slotted SA is compared to the NSX in terms of "give" and suitability to not crushing the sweet spot. I was hoping the SA was going to be my savior, but maybe it's not for me? Maybe the NSX is wrong, but the slotted X is a whole other thing? Maybe I need to be looking at B17 Imperials (but so many reviews favored the SA slotted). Sitbones-wise, I'd say the B17 is great and the NSX is acceptable. Much narrower than that would not be preferred.
Thanks all!
