The Merckx 753 has launched!

I finally got the Eddy all together and out on the road for a maiden voyage this morning. Wonderful ride! I haven't had the legs lately to push it really hard but it climbed well, and buzzed through a couple of short twisty descents without any problems. First impressions are stiffness somewhere in between my SL Moser and my SL/SP Tommasini, but again I didn't hammer the bike too hard today. According to my interpretation of the serial #, it's a 1985 Professional and it looks just like the frame in the Bulgier catalog:

The bike came with a 1st generation C-Record group, with the exception of Dura Ace index shifters. I'd considered replacing these with Campy Synchros, but after reading of the less than stellar performance of these, I'm going to swallow my Campy hubris and go with this set up for a while. The brake levers were scuffed up a little, so I replaced with some shiny Chorus levers I had on hand. I got some repro jewels for Cobalto brakes off eBay which don't quite do it for me, so I might take on a make my own project. I'm also including a a pic of my quick, half-ass homemade Merckx bar plugs. Only other change right now, I'm considering going with black bottle cages and the white IMO, looks a little too bright against the frame off white. I figure there'll be a sweet spot where the bar tape matches nicely in it's transition from white to dingy gray.

Thanks to CV-6 for the trade on the nice Cinelli stem to make the bike fit just right!
