I've had a bad week with tires. On the 22nd I got a large sidewall gash that put an end to my rear Conti Grandsport Race tire. It was approaching 2k miles so it probably had another 1k + left in it. I replaced it with a Conti Gatorskin. This last Saturday the 29th, one week and 100 miles later, I hit something that gashed the tread fairly deeply and part of the sidewall. It caused a flat, but I did not have to boot it. Hopefully it holds out.

I can only imagine that if it was not a Gatorskin that the tire would have been done for. That stretch of road is always a little sketchy with road debris. It is the only stretch of road to get to a popular Indian casino. I would avoid it because of this, but it has nice wide shoulders, is a pretty area, and there are some good climbs.
