With 11 rear & 2 front you could have it choosing when to change the front deraileur for the best ramp up in gears. No need for debating when to switch to the big/small ring(no forgetting either!!!). It will have already figured that out for you. Less thought, better gearing.
XTR Di2 has the capability already. Single shifter handles sequential shifting. Goes up the cassette, then switches chainrings, and offers completely tunable shift points. I suspect it will make it into the next generation of Dura-Ace/Ultegra Di2.
