Along the lines of "I also play hockey a few times a week and there is a definite benefit from cycling", this may be silly, but I work on the eighth floor and NEVER use the elevator. I always take the stairs, and often, as in two or three times a day, get up and go walk the stairs just because I need to move around and not just sit in my cubicle all day long. Seems to me climbing stairs uses the same muscles as cycling, and any exercise is better than none, I figure.
