Yes you can put clipless on your bike.
If you are going for speed, perhaps you can put thinner, high pressure tires on.
Getting as aero as possible, while still being comfortable will make the most difference.
If the course is flat, and not very long, clipless won't make a whole lot of difference, and may slow you down in transition. Get some practice beforehand.
