What size tire does your Trek 970 use? My favorite road tire is the Continental Grand Prix 4000S, but not knowing what size tires your bike needs I have no idea if it will work for you. If your bike accepts wider tires, I've also had very good luck with the Vittoria Randonneur Pro. The Randonneur Pro isn't as light or fast as the Vittoria Voyager Hyper, which I love, but seems to have much better flat protection.
