In general, sore hands and/or numb hands suggest either too much weight on the hands, poor bike fit, or weak core muscles. So many possibilities from adjusting bike fit, to switching out handlebars, to raising the bars a little, to you working on your core muscles.
Back when I rode primarily a flat bar hybrid, I suffered from a number of problems, especially after longer rides. At first, the upright riding position was very comfortable, but got fatiguing over longer rides. So I swapped out the riser bars for a flat bar. But then my hands got sore and my neck started to hurt from being too hunched over. And I started getting knee pain after longer rides. After many years, I came to the conclusion that for the kind of riding I was doing, I needed another bike with drop bars. And now that I figured out my preferred gloves (Giro Bravo Gel), once I am in cycling shape, I never get hand pain or numbness, and no neck pain. And no knee pain.
But since you just bought your bike, don't give up just yet. That said, it would help if you could post a picture of yourself on your Roam so folks could get a sense of what is going on with your bike fit. Bar ends are no panacea, but maybe a handlebar with a 20 to 45 degree bend might be.
