Bikes: A bunch of old bikes and a few new ones

The front shock will add weight and you may have mechanical issues with a suspension fork. Still some people like them for touring.

26 inch is a fine size for touring. Most tourists going to out of the way places like 26 inch tires because they are easy to find and a 26 inch wheels tend to be pretty stout. Also 26 inch is a plus for a smaller person in terms of bike geometry.
