I have two prescription lenses for mine - I have the mirror dark brown polarized version as well as the photochromatic red version. I use the photochromatic version just as you describe since I believe they are 50% light transmission at their highest transmission. Here's the thing though, the photochromatic lenses are really thick in the prescription blank - probably twice as thick as the non photochromatic versions. So I much prefer using the polarized lens in general use and use the photochromatic version for darkish variable light usage. I believe this thick lens issue is true for any of the photochromatic lenses that Rudy Project offers in prescription.
My prescription is basically for reading glasses with a very slight astigmatism. At night, that doesn't matter much and so the reading lens part of the standard clear lens bifocal/reader lens that Rudy Project offers is a brilliant solution for night time riding.
I have the insert for the prescription lenses, but I had problems with fogging lenses in the summer when riding at night. Did you find a way around that or are you fortunate enough to ride where the dewpoint is low?
J.
My prescription was such that the insert prescription lenses behind the sunglass lenses was the only option for me. My photochromic lenses are the laser brown ones.
I've only ridden at night twice this summer. I guess I've been lucky in that there's been no fogging on either ride. I did have to deal with rain on the 2nd ride, but still no fogging there. I've also had no fogging during the worst dew points in the day time. Sweat has been more of a problem, especially when it gets between the inserts and the sunglass lenses. Autumn is on its way here, but I think for next summer I'll get a more vented helmet and some kind of do-rag thing underneath to catch the sweat . My current urban-style helmet came with a liner that did a good job as a sweatband but after several washings in cold water it seems to be letting more sweat through - dunno if its just my imagination.
