Sorry, but that's far too high a price to pay in exchange for a bit of a reduction in the chance of theft.

I prefer to take moderate precautions commensurate with the perceived theft risk in different settings which still let me use both my car and bike for normal transportation, including to destinations where I'll be out of sight of them. And I'll continue to leave my house without worrying too much about the chance that someone will be breaking in. It's been over 40 years since I last had a bike stolen and during that time I've used my bikes for innumerable daily commutes, shopping trips, and other outings to places where I had to leave the bike unattended. Could my bike be stolen tomorrow? Sure, but the loss would be insignificant compared to what I would have lost over the years by not taking my bike on all those trips.

How does one keep his bike with him at all times? Does your library allow your bike inside? Should they?
I understand protecting precious possessions, but there used to be an axiom in the sixties. "you don't possess your possessions, they possess you"
Being afraid to venture into the world because of fear is not how I choose to live my life.
