Yup, which I guess is why I used "prefer" vs "want." You can pull apart a center-mount set, and use just the arms on the braze-ons. You'd need new/longer mounting bolts, and you're left with the now-useless center "bridge". So it's a little more work than just scoring a pair of direct-mounts, but nothing that will shorten your life.
I've got a pair of black center-mount calipers w/o center bolts (I was switching from recessed to nut-mount, never finished the switch) that are ready to go. I also have a silver pair of center-mounts on a bike, which I could swap with the black ones, but I'm a little jammed up with shop time and it could take a few days+ to make that happen.
