I first used Proraso when living in Italy and my Gillette shaving foam had run out. Using the Proraso gave me the first really close shave I had ever had. A couple of years ago I saw the product on Amazon and bought a tube. Yes, it's $10 a tube, but one tube lasts me about 6 months. The Gillette foam costs $2 and will last me a month. The cost per day is about the same for me, but I much prefer the result of the Proraso shaving cream. As for the razor, I always buy the bulk Gillette ones at Costco. They seem to work pretty well for me. YMMV.
