Yes, that works for smallish cuts. Can't leave it in though. Abrades the tube and will eventually cause a flat. I also carry a couple small pieces of heavier stuff, cut from an old tire and cleaned up, corners rounded, etc. Since I already carry a spare tire, the boot kit is for patching the spare. Or someone else's tire.
