This happens to me all the time. While I appreciate their trying to be courteous, it presents an awkward and potentially dangerous situation. I will usually try to wave them on when they have the right of way, yet they insist on my going on.
OP, I agree this was not your fault, but I admit I would be shaken up by this as well.
