Trek question

Hello all. I'm a brand new member looking for a little bit of assistance. I had originally posted this in another part of the forum, and it was suggested I try this area, as there may be more expertise here.

A little background first. I'm 46 years old and I live in the suburbs of Boston. I was heavily into BMX as a teen in the 80s, predominantly freestyle, and more specifically, flatland. I've recently gotten back into riding a BMX bike, which started by restoring a bike I had as a teen. I soon discovered I still have the bug and only wish I didn't wait 25 years to get back into it.

My older brother passed away about a year ago, and left behind two bicycles. One is a Specialized mountain bike that I am keeping for myself.

The other is a road bike. A Trek 420 Fast Track. It appears to have some aftermarket parts on it, though my knowledge of road bikes is limited at best. I know what one looks like. I've checked a bunch of websites trying to find out more about it, but have found very little. I found the model listed on one site, but nowhere can I find the year that the color was made. It's black and the stickers are gold. That combination is nowhere to be found.

I'm most curious as to how old it is. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it yet, but knowing the year it was built is important to me regardless of whether or not I keep it.

Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated.

This is a picture of the bike in question. I do not have the serial number and can't get access to it until tomorrow, as I'm currently working and will be until morning.
