I think that modern cartridge bottom brackets are much better than the old style cup and cone bottom brackets relative to water incursion. To me, the big issue is water collecting inside the seat tube. The simple solution is to drill a tiny hole in the bottom of your bottom bracket shell to let the water drain out.
