Wow, there's a lot of awesome pics here lately!
Rode up Mt. Baker with Bob Freeman and Jerry Nelson (a freaking genetic mutant, I swear. 72 years old and he simply smoked Bob and I) Sunday. Never had such an internal struggle with getting to the top/stopping and waiting for them to catch me on the downhill. Seriously. But I dug deeper than I've ever had to and reached the summit at Artist's Point. Worth the effort, of course.
Bob near the Excelsior Trail turnoff:
One of the 6% sections - Bob says the upper stuff is more like 8/9%:
The Davidson leaning against the MBSA sign about halfway up:
Looking back into the valley:
Above the Resort/chair lift now and into the final 3 miles to Artist's Point:
Mt. Shuksan:
Success! After quite an effort (mental as well as physical) I gain the top. Take that!
Mt. Baker:
Btw, I've been up to Baker before - and even did part of this road on my bike - but that was way back in 2003 and 2004 when I took part in Ski to Sea. We started here - the Mt. Baker DOT buildings - and headed downhill for the road bike portion. But I'd never ridden up, and never been all the way to the summit no matter the conveyance. We stopped here in the sunlight on the way down because we needed a few minutes to warm up!
My reward:
Over in
scozim's
neck of the woods next Saturday for the Manastash Metric Century.
