Hi guys,

I bought this bike back when I knew nothing about bikes, nothing about cycling and general, and just needed a bike to get around. It was too big for me (and I knew that even then) and I didn't treat it very well. I paid $250 for it when I bought it in 2008.

You can see the dismal taping job that I did myself. These days I imagine I'd do it better, but I had a lot less money and time then as an undergrad.

The bike is all (almost) Ultegra 6501 (I think.) The brakes are 600. The frame is an S-Works aluminum frame.

I didn't take great care of the bike. The shifters are all but totally stuck and need to be cleaned. The brake hoods have worn down to the point that it makes sense just to take them off. The frame is scratched all over. But I never left it outside, so there's little rust, and the deraillers and crank still function perfectly well, despite never changing the chain.

I want to fix it up for my own sake and learn about how these parts work. Now that I have another bike that I tenderly care for, I don't mind if I mess this one up in the process.

On the other hand, I thought that maybe it made sense to part it out and sell it in pieces, and that maybe these pieces would be worth something. So I'm asking for advice. Should I fix it up, learn a bit, and try to sell it for nothing? Or should I take the parts that are still intact and sell them off? What's even worth selling? There's no rush, and I can hold onto it for a while if I need to take time to work on it.

Any advice? What would you do if this were yours?
