There are thousands of others that post on this website that ride their bike on the road every day without issue.
And a lot of them can either tolerate it as an experienced rider, or live in bike friendly areas. I promise you, almost literally anywhere else in North America is more bike friendly than the surrounding suburbs of where I live.
