My Primus Omnilite needs a lot of priming for clean startup.
I'm unfamiliar with your kerosene grade, but would expect it to be decent quality.
When properly primed the burner will immediately burn mostly blue flame.
When improperly primed the flame will have lots of yellow and exude black smoke/soot with possible flaring.
Hope this makes sense.
