I disagree. I think it takes reaching the point where you just have to bite the bullet and get on the bike and go where you need to go. It's no different that driving, maybe even easier because driving requires more concern over traffic, routing, parking, and fueling issues. Think about how resistant people are to going someplace in the car when they don't have to, or taking a longer route than necessary. People just resist things until they reach a psychological tipping point where they accept they just have to do it. This tipping-point is what keeps people complacent instead of resistant about driving. Once they get used to biking, they may habitually resist driving instead. I know I certainly do.
