Aero-er than regular gear is all that mattered. Aero seatposts, aero handlebars and brake levers, aero frame tubing, whatever aero benefit they provide takes precedence, even if there is a (reasonable) weight penalty. LeMond's famous TT win over the non-aero Fignon was attributable to something and a lot of people would bet you that his aero setup is what did it, whether it actually did or not.
