Not sure if you are aware or not, but more than 200,000 bikes are stolen in the US every year. Of that number more than 10% are in LA alone with West Side being the Hot spot mainly because the large amount of apartments that store bikes in the garage with little to no security. When I lived in West LA I knew or more than a dozen people who had bikes stolen over the years.

Have a look at the below map and you will quickly realize you are probably only 1 of a few that had a bike stolen that night.
