Unfortunately it might have a thicker downtube than most of the clamp on shifters. It will either leave the shifters angled towards the top middle,or not work at all. There's always bar end shifters or brifters though? Or if you're lucky enough to score a set, there are the Suntour shifters you can mount by the brake levers. Hmm, didnt think of that. This frame isnt made of oversized tubing though, like the later cro moly Treks. I havent actually compared it, but I assumed that the tubes were pretty close to road bike specs of the time period. Guess I'd better figure out before I order any shifters. I definitely dont want bar ends though, I'll probably switch to stem shifters if it turns out the down tube is too big for any of the DT shifters I find.
