Running the same gearing on my singlespeed in the not-flat part of LA, and I concur. Can keep a decent pace, don't have to get out of the saddle on the long slight inclines, and low enough to be able to push up the hills. When riding fixed, I still like something a little higher just to avoid getting too spinny on the downhills.
