From: Richmond, VA (West end - Henrico)

Bikes: 1985 Fuji Del Rey, 25" frame, 12 speed

I did this afternoon... Just a little west of Richmond, Virginia, there is a huge business complex off Patterson Ave called West Creek Pkwy (Capital One is in there, VA Farm Bureau is in there, etc...) and the whole smooth roadway is a big 2 lane divided highway, but yet only 35 mph speed limit. From one end at Patterson Ave, up and around the whole "horseshoe" type of shape, out to the other end, further down Patterson, is 3 miles (out 'n back = 6 miles). There's numerous pullover spots and parking lots scattered around, so all the cyclists and joggers park wherever, and just go from there. As seen from a screen print from MapMyRide, I did 3 laps, including a quick U-turn to ask other riders if they needed help (a couple on his 'n hers Treks were reassembling a quick-release chain that had popped).

Edit: One funny thing that I forgot to mention... While I was out there doing the laps around and around, I "kicked it up a notch" and found that I could keep right up with the "modern roadies" and their CF Specialized, CF Trek, etc... A few gave me a weird glance when I overtook them on the hills (by the twin duck ponds in the image above), but they quickly caught up/passed me on the uphill section. Not giving up, I picked up my pace and caught up with them again on the flat sections. It made me chuckle that, here I am a middle aged 50+ guy, out there kicking it up "old school" style on a 30 yr old Fuji road bike!
