I rode it from downtown RVA to the Charles City Courthouse and back last weekend. Once you get out of the Varina area the trail is basically empty and very smoooooooth. Great place to just get on your bike, ride, and not worry about anything. That courthouse also is a great place to stop for water and snacks at the vending machine.

That said, I've had 2 friends run off the trail near Varina because cars actually drove onto the bike path and tried to run them down. Not sure if it was the same driver each time, but they both reported the incident to the police.

I've also heard reports from others riding on roads in that area that some motorists have been honking and yelling at cyclists because they should get on "their new path" and off the road. The ignorance is strong here sometimes.
