I think carfree literacy should be part of all schooling. People, rich or poor, are very ignorant of this. You can tell this from some of the questions that have been asked on this forum. People know how to ride a bike, but they don't know how to ride safely in traffic and they don't know how to select a good route for cycling. Most people don't have a clue on how to pick out a bike, fit one, or even do something as simple as fix a flat tire or carry a bag of groceries. These are some of the common questions on BF.And I've had friends with college degrees who had no idea how to plan a simple trip on the city bus when their car was in the shop. One co-worker with an M.A. was shocked to learn that a bus went by her house every 30 minutes on a direct route to our workplace.
