I actually just removed the front derailleur and other larger gear last night at 2 a.m.

And...my kickstand (finally!). Now my bike is a lot lighter, but still heavy.

I am still considering whether I should remove the rear derailleur and make it a single speed/fixie, b/c I'm still not quite sure what kind of resistance (gear ratio) I would ultimately like. I just got into biking.
