I'd like to install this chain:





And I bought what I thought were the appropriate tools for the job. A KMC link opener and a KMC link closer:





And I think I've got the mechanics of this correct: Basically all I should have to do is squeeze each end of the silver plated link to get it unclipped.

But I tried it and it didn't work. So I'm obviously missing something. Can someone hit me with a clue bat please?
