i know very little about vintage Treks so thank you for any insight.
I think it's classified as a sports tourer. a little more agile and "fast" than true tourers, but a lot more forgiving and utilitarian compared to racers. I built mine up as a randonneur with fenders and 28 tires (32s wont fit).
Trek 531 tourers are pretty much the gold standard.
