CAT 5
A balmy 52 degrees at the start.
This is a 10 mile flat course with 4 turns in the first 1/2 mile followed by a 7 mile stretch, a left for 2 miles and another left onto the final 1/2 mile to the finish.
My strategy, as Heathpack saw in an email was:
1. Get through town - the first half mile without much power spikes and smooth corners
2. 17 min at 105% or 295W
3. 4:30 at 115% or 320W
4. last 1/2 mile all I got. Probably spiking at 450W across the line.
So, broken down the results were:
1. I got through town uninterrupted by traffic - always a plus.
2. On this stretch I missed my target wattage by 5; I played tag with my 30 second guy for about 3 miles before finally dumping him right before the left turn where I was never off the power.
3. I totally botched the 3rd segment missing my target by a lot(!). Very disappointed in that effort.
4. The last half mile was a 130% 1:15 interval spiking at 550W at the line. The last 150 meters was at 160%. Like a bank balance, an upward trend is a good thing.
Finished 3rd in the race and more than likely 2nd overall in the 6 race series.
For as much as I trained these past 6 months due to work, and especially the last month (I think I had 10 hours on the bike before this

), I'll take the results.
Calling this season over like when the German's bombed Pearl Harbor.
