As a by the by, after our metric century yesterday, the thing I yearned most was ham. Fortunately, there was supermarket close by to the finish, and I got two nice pieces of leg ham and "inhaled" them. The salt and protein certainly hit the spot.
I put about 15% whey protein, by weight, in my homebrew powder. I think it helps keep down the tendency to eat more than necessary in the way of post-ride recovery food while preventing muscle loss during the ride.
