That's what I do at most places, but Decathlon doesn't have full-sized shopping carts, just the smaller plastic ones, and my Brommie won't fit in them very well, so the last time I went in I just folded it up and rolled around it around with me on its Eazy Wheels.
That's a nice setup! Kinda funny you would post something from pathlesspedaled.com Russ and Laura used to live in LB at one time. I never really knew them, but I did go to their garage sale and helped them out a little for a trip they were going on. They did start on full-size bikes. My theory on what happened was they discovered that it's alot easier getting on Amtrak with foldies instead of full-size bikes. So they did the big switch for the next trip.
If you ever communicate with them, ask them if they miss LB. I'm betting they don't.
