I feel more visible at night/in the dark than during the day. I use good lighting and wear a reflective belt and refelctive ankle bands in the dark. There's no way a driver overtaking me is going to miss me in the dark. To oncoming traffic my lighting makes me look like a motorcycle so they actually give me the right of way. I still think riding in the dark isn't as safe as the day but getting creamed by a driver is less likely after dark IMO if you take the right precautions.
