What version of the Shimano Di2 did you try? The Ultegra 6770 (10sp) and 6870 (11sp) Di2 series have been very reliable. The 6870 is lighter with even longer battery life than the previous generation. The internal seatpost location protects the battery from salt and moisture, and allows the use of a lighter battery. We think that the 6870 has fantastic shifting and have not heard of any reliability problems.
