I should mention another thing. The bolt method for removing fixed cups that I learned back when I worked at a LBS is outdated now. That depends on the friction of the bolt head against the cup. It works because the bolt is RH threaded and the cup is LH. A few months ago I bought a really good cotter press from Bike Smith. For an extra 10 bucks, he offers this nifty BB tool. It's a threaded rod, a couple nuts and a 5/8" thick square washer with a channel milled into it. All you need to do is clamp the washer onto the cup with the rod and nuts and you have a super purchase on the cup that you can use to loosen or tighten.
