Hybrid to Road. OMG!!

Since people ask periodically, I thought I'd share my first hand experience with the hybrid to road transition.

Today I took my first ride on the new Fuji road bike. Coming from riding a hybrid for several years, I have to say it was enlightening and surprising. I honestly expected some difference, but not as drastic as they turned out to be.

From alum to carbon, from 39lbs to 20lbs, from Acera to 105, from 8 speed triple to 11 speed compact, from 35c to 25c. Obviously the two bikes are seas apart, but it really was amazing to experience the differences first hand.

I wanted to conform to the old adage and say riding was not easier, but I went faster. In reality it was much easier and I did go quite a bit faster. The biggest difference was on hills. Momentum did not dissipate under me as quickly Noticeable difference in how fewer times I found myself shifting down and I found after a downhill stretch I could sustain the speed for a very long time.

I'm very happy. I don't regret a dime spent on the bike and its components. A road bike fits my riding much more. I only wish I had switched sooner.
